China Deploys 10,000-Ton Hospital Ship To Support Troops Stationed On Remote Islands
The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy hospital ship, Silk Road Ark, left the Zhanjiang military port in the Guangdong Province for a medical service mission to the South China Sea Islands and along South China’s shores.
It will offer medical consultation, treatments, medical examinations, Chinese physiotherapy, surgery, and health education to soldiers, officers, and their families stationed on the islands.
The hospital ship will also conduct casualty treatment drills and medical equipment maintenance during the mission.
Silk Road Ark is China’s second domestically designed and built ship, weighing 10,000 tonnes.
It recently returned from a 234-day overseas voyage in April during which the medical team handled over 26,300 outpatient visits and performed 2724 surgeries in Nauru, Fiji, Tonga, Jamaica, Barbados and Papua New Guinea.
