World’s First Global Maritime Competition
What are Maritime Security Jobs?
Maritime security jobs are unique and singular in the sense that they involve a lot of complexities and intricacies in their execution. Unlike other security jobs which though, are complex, maritime security jobs involve a lot of protocols and nuances, in the absence of which various loopholes can be found and exploited by criminals and offenders. In simple terms maritime security refers to protecting the naval borders and naval vessels from any possible threat. Maritime security jobs, therefore involve both physical participation on the part of people as well as manoeuvres in the courtrooms by lawyers in case maritime legalities have to be incorporated.
Maritime security training for maritime security jobs like coast guards and even maritime law is extensive and, since maritime security as a profession is still relatively unexploited, is something that is being underutilised. In contemporary times however, owing to the growing threat of security concerns from all vistas, maritime security has also become very important and it is thus practical for one to get enrolled in a maritime security training program to advance in the profession of providing security, albeit with a difference.
Types of Maritime Security Jobs
Physical maritime security jobs include the profession of coast guards who play an important role when it comes to guarding the marine borders of nations. Coast guards play a very vital role just like the police play an important role in providing security within the country and its states. The duties and responsibilities of coast guards are many and they vary from nation to nation. In certain countries, where water boundaries are predominant, it is the coast guards who play a major role as a protective force in addition to the existing marine border security force to protect the nation from invaders and the threat of terrorism.
In addition to the coast guards, countries across the world also have their own interpretation of maritime security jobs and provide their own exclusive maritime security training to the interested applicants. The United States’ interpretation of marine security guards involves a three-tiered responsibility namely – port security, vessel security and facility security along with a specific branch of maritime security force called Marine Corps Security Force Regiment. This regiment was set-up to operate and it still operates as the main strategist of counter-terrorism in the United States and is a very well-known regiment across the world. United States also has got a specific hostage rescue team which is a paramilitary force that specialises in rescuing hostages from offenders – both criminal as well as terrorists. Nations like Singapore and Japan, on the other hand interpret maritime security training in a completely different angle.
Singapore has a branch known as the Police Coast Guards who are primarily responsible for providing marine security to the nation. This division of marine security in the nation also deals with hostage rescue operations, counter-terrorism operations and even immigration details encompassing almost every aspect of marine security required. Japan, as an island nation also has a specific subdivision of marine security known as the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) which is solely responsible for providing naval security to the island nation.
Skills Required
The maritime security training for such jobs is exhaustive and requires a lot of commitment and allegiance on the part of an applicant. A similar level of commitment and duty-consciousness is necessary for maritime security jobs like maritime law. Maritime law can also be regarded as a part of maritime security jobs as, it also involves providing justice and dealing with offenders and perpetrators. And since legalese is the next step when it comes to punishing the wrong-doers, it is important that the offenders are booked correctly and are prosecuted by the right department. Thus making maritime law an intrinsic part of maritime security jobs.
Getting for oneself, maritime security training will enable the person to digress in a field that is of core importance and is unique at the same time. Maritime security jobs offer a person, the feasibility of being a valued security enforcer in an area that is facing a lot of violations and crime and terrorism offences, thus enabling the person to shine in an unparallel field unequivocally.
