World’s First Zero CO2 Emissions Handymax Bulk Carrier Inches Closer to Reality
On Friday, November 7, just about a year after a state-owned Chilean business and one of the globe’s leading copper producers, Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile (abbreviated CODELCO), and also NYK Bulk & Project Carriers Ltd. (abbreviated the NBP), an NYK Group firm, reportedly signed a MOU to collectively study the decarbonized transportation of copper-based goods in Singapore (24 November 2022), it was declared that substantial progress has been made.
This would serve as the very first of a fleet of 10 to 15 vessels devoted to the transport of copper products from Chile to the Far East that NBP would operate. CODELCO and NBP want the vessel to be constructed and constructed by OSHIMA, which is willing to discuss the proposal with CODELCO and NBP.
Maximo Pacheco, chair of the board of directors at CODELCO; Carlos Alvarado, the chief commercial officer of CODELCO; Fernando Landman, the general manager of CODELCO, Singapore; Masashi Suda, the NBP president; Mitsunori Yuasa, chief executive officer associated with NBP; and many others were present at the ceremony conducted to commemorate the signing.
