Video: Containership In Bangladesh Tilts Losing Containers Overboard
A feeder vessel loaded with containers sailing in Bangladesh’s coastal waters became unstable and partially submerged on July 6.

Per the Port Authority, all crew onboard were safely rescued, and a salvage operation was also started.
The ship in question is the 19-year-old Pangaon Express, 242 ft long and weighing 3000 dwt.
It was taking containers from the Chattogram port in Bangladesh, along its coast and 157 nm inland on the River Megna, to its destination, the Pangaon Terminal close to Dhaka, the capital city.
Per reports, the small feeder ship left Chattogram port around 4:00 am (local time) and was caught in heavy and turbulent waters close to Bhasan Char Island and Sandwip Channel before it reached the river.
The weather reports warned of some turbulence; however, later reports suggested that the feeder vessel went through strong winds, rolling seas and high tides.
The ship’s captain maintained calm and directed the vessel to the coast. A distress call was issued at 11:00 am on July 6. All 12 crew and two people from Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority were rescued by a fishing boat and taken to shore.
The containers on the ship moved from their place, reportedly, and three fell into the water. The ship has a capacity of 96 TEU. However, some reports suggest there were roughly 40 containers on it when the incident occurred.
Images and videos of the ships show it listing to port with one container floating near it.
The ship is owned by the Chattogram Port. Hence it sent two tugs to carry out salvage. There were attempts to remove the containers and pump water from the vessel. The country’s navy also assisted in the operation.
Chattogram Port Authority warned ships nearby to proceed cautiously since there might be containers in the waters.
