Two oil tankers have reportedly been targeted by unidentified projectiles near the Strait of Hormuz, as per the report issued by the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

The first oil tanker came under attack when leaving the Strait of Hormuz. This resulted in a small fire and black out at sea. However, the fire was brought under control, and the ship continued sailing with no casualties or environmental damage.

Several hours later, another crude oil tanker has reported being attacked by unidentified projectiles east of Oman. No crew injuries and no environmental damage, as well.

Authorities are investigating both incidents. UKMTO did not identify the projectiles or those responsible.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a key maritime chokepoint for global oil supplies. Prior to the attacks launched by the U.S and Israel against Iran in late February, approximately one-fifth of the world’s supply of oil and LNG went through the waterway.

Since then, Tehran has been blocking commercial ships and firing on vessels it accuses of making unauthorised crossings. The United States has responded with a counterblockade of Iranian ports aimed at preventing Tehran from exporting its oil.

The latest attacks have made the security situation even worse for the vessels navigating around the Strait of Hormuz and nearby areas.

The first attacked ship managed to continue its voyage after the fire on board was extinguished. The UKMTO did not reveal the origin or destination of the ship.

The agency did not provide details about the type of projectile involved or identify those responsible.

The second tanker, which was struck east of Oman, reported no casualties or environmental damage, with all crew members safe.

UKMTO has advised vessels transiting the area to proceed with caution and report any suspicious activity to the agency.
