Oman’s SOHAR Port Introduces Port Management Information System ‘Marasi’
SOHAR Port and Freezone, a deep-sea port and adjacent free zone in the Middle East, has launched a new Port Management Information System called “Marasi.”
The launch was held under the patronage of Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed Al-Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology for Transport.
It aims to enhance stakeholder collaboration, optimise port operations, and streamline data exchange.
Marasi, a fully web-based system already deployed in over 50 ports worldwide, is set to strengthen Oman’s logistics and trade sectors.
The system offers a user-friendly interface that simplifies communication between the port and its various stakeholders, including marine service providers, terminals, and shipping agents.
One of Marasi’s key features is a mobile application designed for marine pilots. This app allows pilots to securely access and record vessel data electronically, reducing manual processes and improving data accuracy.
Shipping agents also benefit from real-time communication, automated operational notifications, and seamless submission of Environmental Ship Index (ESI) data, which leads to greater operational efficiency.
Emile Hoogsteden, CEO of SOHAR Port, said that the introduction of Marasi represents a crucial milestone in the port’s digital transformation. He says that this system not only improves operational efficiency and resource management but also fosters collaboration across the maritime community.
“Aligned with Oman Vision 2040, Marasi leverages innovation to drive economic diversification, enhance global competitiveness, and support sustainable growth,” Hoogsteden added.
Marasi is designed to enhance decision-making by providing reliable, real-time data. It integrates with internal and external systems through APIs, supports digital signatures for marine certifications, and enables streamlined incident reporting.
A feedback mechanism within the system drives continuous improvement. The system also promotes transparency by providing public access to vessel schedules and operational updates through a bulletin board, without requiring login credentials.
The port aims to use digital solutions for operational excellence and sustainable growth. This system helps SOHAR strengthen its position as a major player in the global logistics industry.
SOHAR Port is one of the fastest-growing ports in the world, serving as a key gateway for imports and exports in Oman. It contributes 2.1% of Oman’s GDP and generates nearly 36,000 jobs.
The port is helping to modernise Oman’s logistics infrastructure and support the country’s long-term economic goals under Oman Vision 2040, with its commitment to using technology and focusing on sustainable development.
