Fire Breaks Out Aboard Disney Cruise Line’s Newest Ship, Passengers React

Disney Cruise Line’s latest ship, Disney Treasure, recently encountered a small fire onboard while sailing through the Western Caribbean.

The fire occurred in the ship’s incinerator area and was quickly contained by the crew, ensuring no major disruptions to the voyage.

The 144,000 gross ton cruise ship, which accommodates up to 4,000 passengers, encountered fire shortly after departure from Port Canaveral on a 7-night Western Caribbean cruise.

Passengers on board reported hearing a coded safety announcement directed at the crew before the captain addressed the situation, assuring guests that the fire had been contained.

A guest shared on social media that they experienced a medical emergency in their family, the small fire, and the earthquake on the same day, calling it a “long day”

However, the cruise director later clarified that the incident was in the incinerator room, a location designed to handle heat and fire-related activities. Some passengers even said that if a fire were to happen anywhere, the incinerator was the best place for it.

One Instagram story initially lacked context, leading to fears among followers. The post was later discussed in a Disney Cruise Line Reddit community, where passengers currently on the ship confirmed that the fire was minor and swiftly handled.

A Reddit user who was shopping on board at the time reported hearing an announcement meant for the crew. Initially unsure of the details, they later learned that the captain clarified the situation, confirming that there was no reason for alarm.

Another passenger mentioned that they were dining at Palo Steakhouse when the cruise director made a later announcement explaining that the crew had successfully controlled the fire.

Some guests said that small fires on cruise ships are not uncommon. A passenger recalled a fire on the Disney Dream during Thanksgiving night, which was also quickly managed by the crew.

Another traveller referenced a fire on Castaway Cay, Disney’s private Island, caused by a discarded lit cigar. That fire briefly cut power to the island, but crew members handled the situation efficiently.

Some guests suggested that Disney Cruise Line should ban smoking on Castaway Cay to prevent future fire-related risks. Others were frustrated over having to walk through clouds of smoke while navigating the ship and island.

Some called for stricter regulations, similar to policies in Mexico, where smoking has been banned on beaches and public areas.

Additionally, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit the Caribbean near the Cayman Islands on February 8, 2025, just hours after the Disney Treasure set sail. This led to a tsunami warning.

Despite the combination of these events, the cruise continued its journey.

In June 2024, Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Sea, the world’s largest cruise ship, encountered a fire while docked in Costa Maya, Mexico. The fire temporarily shut down power and caused a slight delay in departure.

Despite the recent fire incident, Disney Treasure continued its scheduled itinerary with no interruptions to onboard activities or destinations. It arrived at its first port of call, Cozumel, Mexico, on February 10, 2025, as planned.

The ship offers immersive experiences such as the Plaza de Coco restaurant, inspired by Pixar’s Coco, and the Worlds of Marvel dining experience, where guests interact with Marvel superheroes.

Disney Treasure also features Broadway-style productions like “The Tale of Moana”, upscale dining options like Palo Steakhouse, and unique themed lounges, including the Haunted Mansion Parlour.
