Samad Nasrullayev was the Azerbaijani captain of the civilian merchant ship Atlas Bey, which was recently attacked off Ukraine’s Odesa.

The captain died in the drone strike, and his body has been recovered and sent to Odesa.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry expressed condolences to his family and loved ones and said May he always rest in peace.

After all the procedures, his body was taken to the Lankaran district.

Final rites were performed in his native village, Baligchilar, and he was then buried at the local cemetery.

On July 14, Atlas Bey, owned by the Turkish company Okean Maritime, was attacked by a drone off Odesa.

11 crew members, all from Azerbaijan, were onboard, who sustained injuries from the attack, but the captain lost his life.

Thanks to the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission in Kyiv, 10 crew members were safely evacuated from the ship and were repatriated via Moldova on July 15.

A day later, the captain’s body was recovered and sent to Odessa.
