A really brief and strange video shows a cargo ship dropping its anchor on a tug boat, almost tipping the boat over and resulting in man overboard.

It is hard to figure who was at fault – the tug master who brought its boat alongside for the ship to drop anchor or the ship master who didn’t realize the tug was standing right beneath the anchor.

    1. The ships master should have been aware, secondly and more importantly, you would normally walk the anchor to sea level before releasing.

    2. I know exactly what went wrong. The big ship dropped its anchor on the little tug! Let me know if you need help figuring any other videos out.

    3. Dear David,

It will be helpful to learn from the mistake. Please let us know more about this incident.

    4. I would am thinking the small work boat may have been in the area below, the anchor to receive then disconnect the anchor on her foredeck. Releasing the Anchor Winch braking system was a touch heavy handed.
Anchors do have a tendency to release quickly.

    5. It is good seamanship for OOW before dropping to check if there is any craft beneath to the ship anchor hawse pipe even if the action to let anchor go required so urgently . Also Tug Master failed to find safe position on the ship to serve
