IMO Secretary General Champions Seafarer Safety & Innovation At Marine Insight Global Summit
Marine Insight hosted its 3rd Annual Summit on the theme ‘Charting Tomorrow: The Global Maritime Transformation’, on October 6 and 7, 2026, bringing together thousands of professionals from more than 120 countries. The virtual event involved knowledge sharing, discussions on pressing topics, and strategic visioning.
IMO Keynote Sets Vision for Maritime Safety & Transformation
Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), delivered the opening address, elaborating on the impact of recent attacks on shipping, given the current geopolitical situation.
He urged ship operators to conduct risk assessments before letting vessels sail into unsafe waters, risking the safety of the ship, cargo, and crew. Secretary-General Dominguez also outlined IMO priorities, including the development of the new Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) Code, the digitalization strategy, energy transition frameworks, and comprehensive STCW training reforms.
Underscoring the industry’s ultimate foundation, he closed the speech by highlighting that maritime is, above all, about people.
Industry Collaboration & Shared Growth
The summit was made possible through collaborations with 6 partners who contributed significantly to the event’s success.
FrontM served as Technology Partner, delivering the OnShip platform that powered all virtual sessions, networking lounges, and partner booths. FrontM CEO Kiran Venkatesh shared insights on the Maritime Financing panel, while CCO Punit Oza moderated the flagship Giants of the Sea executive panel.
Azolla joined as Co-Powering Partner, reinforcing the summit’s decarbonization focus through its maritime sustainability solutions. Azola Business Head Kiran Shet served on the awards jury, while Dr. Pinaac Makwana spoke on the Decarbonization panel. In addition, Azola’s group company, Synergy Marine Group, earned the Green Shipping Champion title, crediting Azola with helping over 700 vessels remain energy-efficient and regulatory compliant.
OceanScore acted as Innovation Partner, highlighting its emissions-compliance software designed for EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime regulations. OceanScore Managing Director Albrecht Grell participated in the Decarbonization panel, noting that the company’s software currently supports more than 2,200 vessels worldwide.
INFYZ served as the Ports and Terminals Digitalization Partner, showcasing its AI-powered terminal operations systems currently live at more than 65 locations across 15 countries. INFYZ CEO Srinivas Ramireddy presented on the Smart Ports panel, and INFYZ Solutions ultimately received the Maritime Innovation Excellence Award.
Marine Pals served as Innovation Partner and Young Innovators Challenge Partner, given its expertise in microlearning and virtual reality training for the event. Representatives Cyril Philip and Capt. Leroy Sampi helped evaluate competition entries and served as final judges for the youth challenge.
Sea Squad AI, as the official AI Partner, showcased its specialized role-based artificial intelligence agents tailored for modern maritime operational intelligence.
Executive Panels Address Pressing Challenges
Throughout the summit, industry leaders tackled 7 focus areas across panel discussions. On the Decarbonization panel, speakers debated whether regulatory frameworks are lagging behind technology, ultimately agreeing that the cleanest fuel is always the one you never burn.
During the Maritime Financing panel, executives noted that money is not the primary barrier to innovation, though startups struggle to scale, while highlighting emerging opportunities in ship tokenization and India’s GIFT City.
The Startup Revolution session questioned why pilot programs fail to scale and defined what makes a maritime startup investable.
The Women in Maritime panel addressed systemic barriers while emphasizing mentorship, visibility, and role models.
In Seafarers and AI, experts urged developers to design software for decisions rather than overwhelming crews with raw data.
The Smart Ports discussion demonstrated how terminal automation delivers permanent efficiency, noting that operators who automate never return to manual methods.
Finally, the Giants of the Sea panel addressed crew rights in conflict zones, bridging the ship-shore trust gap, and overcoming training bottlenecks for alternative fuels like methanol.
Marine Insight Global Awards Celebrate Excellence
The event concluded with the Global Awards, determined through a combination of an expert jury vote weighted at 60% and a public industry vote weighted at 40% across 8 categories.
