Fourth Person Charged After Attack On Filipino Shipworkers In UK’s Avonmouth Docks

A fourth individual has been charged over an assault carried out against three Filipino ship workers in the UK, near Avonmouth Docks, where one of them fell severely ill in the hospital.

According to Avon and Somerset Police, Kayleigh Coates, a 39 year old woman residing in north Bristol, was charged with two counts of assault causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) and racial public order offense.

Coates was re-arrested on September 25 and later bailed under certain conditions. She will appear before the Magistrates on October 22.

The assault occurred during the evening of July 31, at Richmond Terrace, Avonmouth, close to Bristol. According to police statement, many people were involved in the incident.

All three victims were from the Philippines. The two shipworkers received hospital treatment for the injuries they sustained. While one of them has been discharged, another one is still seriously ill in the hospital. The third shipworker had slight injuries.

Police has classified the incident as a potential hate crime.

The three other individuals have been charged in relation to the attack.

Kurtis Ranklin, aged 45, from Southmead, and Preston Stabb, aged 18, from Shirehampton, have both been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.

Both have been remanded in custody. Stabb also has another charge of common assault on him.

Additionally, there has been a charge filed against a 17-year-old boy for this incident. He cannot be named for legal reasons.

The youth is being charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to one of the shipworkers and has been bailed conditionally.

All three accused will make an appearance at the Bristol Crown Court on September 30.

Coates is the fourth individual who has been charged in relation to this incident.
