One of the largest shipbuilder in the world, Fincantieri has launched the new cruise ship Mein Schiff Flow for TUI Cruises, a joint venture between TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Group, at its Monfalcone shipyard on May 30, 2025.

This ship is the second in the InTUItion class, a next-generation cruise ship series designed for sustainable operations.

The launching ceremony was attended by several key figures, including Daniele Fanara, Senior Vice President of New Building and After Sales at Fincantieri’s Merchant Ships Division, Cristiano Bazzara, Director of the Monfalcone yard, and Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises.

“Mein Schiff Flow” follows the delivery of its sister ship “Mein Schiff Relax,” which entered service in February this year. The newly floated vessel is expected to join TUI Cruises’ fleet in mid-2026.

The ship, weighing approximately 160,000 gross tons and stretching 326 meters (1,070 feet) long, will accommodate up to 3,984 passengers and 1,535 crew members. It has 1,945 passenger cabins and is the largest ship in the Mein Schiff fleet to date.

The new ship is designed for dual-fuel operations and can run on both Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Marine Gas Oil (MGO). According to the shipbuilder, the design is “future-proof” and will be capable of using alternative low-emission fuels such as bio-LNG or e-LNG once they become available for commercial use. This makes it the first LNG-fueled ship in the Mein Schiff fleet.

The InTUItion class was first introduced in 2018 when TUI Group placed the initial order for two cruise ships with Fincantieri. The ships were specifically designed for the German-speaking market, where Mein Schiff has a strong presence.

Fincantieri described this project as a first-of-its-kind design focused on both modern passenger experience and environmental sustainability.

“Mein Schiff Flow” will feature several green technologies, including catalytic converters that meet Euro 6 emission standards and a steam turbine that uses residual heat from the diesel generators to improve energy efficiency.

The vessel is also equipped with an electrical shore-power connection. This feature allows the ship to operate almost emission-free while docked in port, which typically accounts for about 40% of a cruise ship’s time during a voyage.

Another key feature on board is the advanced waste treatment system. This innovative system can convert organic materials into recyclable components using a special thermal process, helping to reduce waste and improve overall environmental performance.

In terms of amenities, the ship will offer a fresh layout focused on relaxation and comfort. It will feature 14 different restaurants, including a new Asian cuisine option. For the first time in the fleet, the ship will also introduce two-deck “freedom suites.”

Additionally, new cabin options will be available for solo travelers in inside, outside, and balcony categories. The onboard spa and wellness areas have also been redesigned to enhance guest experiences.

After the float-out ceremony, about 130 million liters of water were pumped into the dry dock to float the vessel. Now afloat, “Mein Schiff Flow” will be moved to the outfitting berth for the next stages of construction and interior completion.
