EU Blacklists Mumbai-Based Commercial Ship Manager Over Russian Crude Transfers
A ship manager based in Mumbai, India, was one of the three individuals sanctioned under the new EU sanctions package against Russia, which was revealed on Thursday.
The measures aim to prevent Russia from continuing its war against Ukraine, the European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief, Kaja Kallas, said.
Additionally, 9 companies were also blacklisted for involvement in shipping Russian crude and petroleum products and conducting illegal oil transfers at sea, according to sources.
One such company is Vigor Marine Services LLP, which was sanctioned because two of its ships had carried Russian energy products, the EU said in a statement.
The scope of these activities includes offering insurance-related services, offering ship-to-ship transfers, and tampering with the Automatic Identification System, which shows a ship’s location in real time.
Sanctions were also imposed on a trading company based in Dubai that supplied Russian crude to India, especially to Nayara Energy Limited, which is already mentioned in the EU blacklist of companies.
A few other individuals and companies have also been sanctioned for allegedly offering support to Russian military and industrial complexes or aiding in the exports of Russian energy cargoes.
In 2025, 3 aviation firms based in the capital, New Delhi, were accused of having links to Russia and were sanctioned.
Kallas had said that these measures had denied Russia over €1 trillion and highlighted the importance of continuing the strategy to make it even more difficult and expensive for Russia to continue this war.
A few Russian companies have also been targeted in the latest wave of sanctions. This includes Movers Group LLC, which is a cargo delivery firm that also imports commodities subject to restrictive policies by the EU.
The companies have been blamed for helping the Russian shadow fleet operations, and action has been taken against their founders and CEOs as well. This includes asset freezes, difficulties in obtaining funding for future projects, and cancellation of visas to EU nations.
