Sanmar has completed the first of two tugs for Norwegian customer Buksér og Berging, which each feature two Rolls-Royce Bergen C26:33L6PG engines fueled purely by liquefied natural gas (LNG). It will be operated by Norwegian state oil company Statoil at its Kårstø gas terminal.

Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, a shipbuilding affiliate of Hyundai Heavy Industries, the world’s biggest shipbuilder, announced that it has successfully launched a 162,000 m3 LNG carrier built using the on-ground shipbuilding method for the first time in the world.

This ship concept makes it easier to find one’s sea legs, thanks to opposing waves created in specially-designed tanks fitted in the hull. The ship will house personnel working on offshore installations, and is optimized to provide the best possible comfort when moored adjacent to a platform.

The Danish Maritime Authority published a report elucidating which administrative tasks are perceived as burdens by seafarers and Danish shipowners. The report is part of the Growth Plan for the Blue Denmark and highlights a desire to reduce the amount of paperwork.

Malaysia yesterday launched its largest and the world’s third biggest trailing suction hopper dredger, named “Inai Kenanga”.

Until now icebreaker ships have been built to cut ice in a straight line. However, a newly developed icebreaker “Baltika” will be seen cutting thick layers of ice sideways. The vessel is being built for Russia’s Ministry of Transport for use in the Gulf of Finland, near St. Petersburg.

A couple of months later, on 23-29 September, the second vessel in the Triple-E series which is to count a total of 20 ships, will be coming to Copenhagen. To celebrate this event, Maersk will offer the public a view of the large, new, and innovative container ship and at the same time opens the doors to the world of shipping with a multi-media exhibition located next to the ship.

The first Triple-E has commenced its maiden voyage in Busan, South Korea. At the helm, the crew of the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller whose members have been selected among Maersk Line’s finest.
