Botix, a startup company that is building an AI-powered autonomous maritime navigation system, won the Best Maritime Startup / Innovation award at the Marine Insight Global Awards 2026.

The category recognizes young companies that challenge established ways of working with new ideas. It was one of the closest contests of the evening, with only a few points separating the top three nominees once public votes were added.

The jury for the Marine Insight Global Awards evaluated the nominees on originality, the importance of the problem being solved, and early traction along with the ability to scale. Botix stood out for the strength of its technology and a clear path from trials to real-world use at sea.

Accepting the award on stage, Alan John of Botix described the company as a startup founded two years ago that delivers intelligent navigation systems for vessels. “Building a startup is very tough. It’s a challenge,” he said, thanking Marine Insight and the jury for the recognition.

He added that Botix hopes to work with more ship owners worldwide and “jointly accelerate the arrival of the global intelligent shipping era.” The company will continue to focus on technological innovation, improving maritime operational efficiency and delivering more reliable intelligent solutions, and looks forward to closer cooperation with all its partners.

On the technology side, Botix uses transformer-based sensor fusion across radar, vision, and AIS data, along with AI-generated simulation to train its systems faster.
