US-Contracted Vessel Hit By 4 Iranian Drones & A Missile Near Strait Of Hormuz: Report
A vessel operating under a US contract near the Strait of Hormuz was hit by four Iranian drones and at least one missile earlier this week, US media reported on Wednesday.
According to people familiar with the incident, one of the projectiles hit the vessel while it was sailing near the strait.
Some crew members suffered minor injuries, including smoke inhalation, the report said. They were being treated in an unspecified Gulf country.
Several US personnel were also on board when the attack took place.
The US-Iran fighting has been going on since February 28, 2026. Fighting has continued in the Gulf and other parts of the region.
Commercial ships have also been affected by the fighting near the Strait of Hormuz. The US and Iran have carried out attacks and counter-attacks in the area.
The Strait of Hormuz carries about one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments under normal conditions. It is one of the main routes for energy moving out of the Gulf.
The route is important for countries that rely on oil and LNG shipments from the Gulf. Any fall in vessel traffic through the strait can affect how these energy supplies move to international markets.
Fewer ships are now passing through the strait. Reuters cited preliminary tracking data showing that just four vessels crossed it on Tuesday.
There have been other attacks involving vessels near the strait. Iran has said it attacked ships in the area. US forces have also struck Iranian positions over what they said were threats to commercial shipping.
The vessel involved in the latest reported attack has not been identified. Its cargo and exact location are also unknown. There is no information on the type of drones or missile used or the damage caused to the vessel.
The US and Iran have not confirmed the report. The vessel’s current condition and location are not known.
