Around 1,500 drones illuminated the Mumbai sky through a choreographed display on Sunday, October 11, as Cordelia Cruises launched its second vessel, ‘Cordelia Sky’. The ceremonial launch took place at Mahalaxmi racecourse, where formations inspired by Mumbai, India, and the new cruise ship, culminating in an image of Cordelia Sky, were displayed.

The launch of Cordelia Sky now brings the combined inventory of Cordelia Sky and Cordelia Empress to 1,798 staterooms. As per reports, the combined capacity of the two ships at double occupancy is 3,596 guests, accounting for a 126% increase in the passenger capacity of the earlier single-ship operation. The ship is 258 metres long with a gross tonnage of 77,104 GT.

Cordelia Sky alone features 245 mini suites, 313 ocean view staterooms, 429 interior staterooms, and 245 mini suites. The ship offers 10 dining venues, a marquee theatre facility with a seating capacity of 930 people, hot tubs, pools, and open deck space of over 30,000 sq.ft. The ship also has span dining, wellness, entertainment, family activities, sports, and spa facilities for its onboard passengers. The passengers boarding Cordelia Sky have multiple cuisine options available for them, along with vegetarian meals and food options for Jain passengers.

The ship is all set to begin its first inaugural commercial sailing on October 23, 2026, from Mumbai. This sail will include two-night cruises at sea, three-night Goa cruises, four-night Lakshadweep cruises and five-night Goa-Lakshadweep itineraries.

The president and CEO of Cordelia Cruises, Jurgen Bailom, said that the launch of Cordelia Sky was a milestone in the company’s long-sought aim of making cruising a preferred holiday option for the Indian masses. Media representatives, business partners, guests, and industry participants were among the numerous attendees who marked their presence at the event.

As of the latest updates, Cordelia Empress is planned to begin its commercial sailings from October 25, with its homeport scheduled to be shifted to Kochi. The move, including the change in homeport and itineraries, is made with a view to improving cruising access for travellers from Kerala and other parts of southern India. These changes come following the arrival of Cordelia Sky.

Cordelia Cruises began its operations in 2021, initially operating with only one ship, ‘MV Empress’, and, as per company reports, it has welcomed aboard more than 800,000 passengers to date. The company is also planning to expand its fleet with the addition of a third vessel named ‘Cordelia Sun’ by November 2027.
