The Pakistan Navy has rescued and evacuated 18 crew members from a merchant vessel after it sent a distress call while sailing in the North Arabian Sea, around 200 nautical miles off Pakistan’s coast.

According to officials, the vessel, MV Gold Autumn, issued an emergency alert, prompting a coordinated response from maritime authorities.

The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency activated its Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) after receiving the alert and launched emergency procedures.

A Pakistan Navy ship, PNS Hunain, which was already on patrol in the area, was immediately diverted to assist the vessel. Naval teams carried out search and rescue operations and reached the ship to provide help.

During the operation, the Navy teams provided medical assistance to crew members, supported firefighting efforts on board, and carried out a technical check of the vessel to assess its condition.

All 18 crew members were safely evacuated from the ship. The group included nationals from China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam and Indonesia.

After the rescue, the crew members were taken to Karachi for medical care. They will later be repatriated to their home countries.

The Pakistan Navy said the operation was carried out in coordination with other agencies and followed standard emergency response procedures at sea.

It also said its ship PNS Hunain acted quickly after the distress call and managed the rescue operation in its patrol area.

The mission was described by officials as part of the Navy’s regular role in responding to maritime emergencies within its area of responsibility.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also praised the Pakistan Navy for its response. He appreciated the officers and sailors for their quick action, professionalism and handling of the situation after the distress call from MV Gold Autumn.

Authorities have not shared details about what caused the emergency alert on the vessel.
