Houthis Sink Another Commercial Ship in Red Sea

Yemen’s Houthi group has sunk a second commercial vessel, the MV Tutor, highlighting the ongoing threat in the region.

The MV Tutor, a Greek-owned coal carrier, was targeted in a coordinated attack involving missiles and an explosive-laden remote-controlled boat on June 12, 2024.

The attack caused severe damage, making the vessel take on water. Despite efforts to save it, the MV Tutor sank in the Southern Red Sea.

One Filipino crew member is missing and presumed dead, while the rescue group safely evacuated the remaining 21 crew members.

The Houthi attacks are part of a broader campaign by the Iran-aligned Houthis, using solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza to justify their actions.

Since November 2023, Houthis have targeted numerous commercial vessels, disrupting global trade routes and forcing rerouting away from the Suez Canal.
