Wreckage Of Ernest Shackleton’s Last Vessel Discovered in the Labrador Sea

The wreck of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s last ship, Quest, has been discovered in the Labrador Sea.

Quest is upright and intact at a depth of 390 meters, northwest of St. John’s and east of Battle Harbour, Labrador.

The Royal Canadian Geographical Society led the expedition that discovered Quest.

In 1922, Shackleton died aboard Quest in Grytviken Harbour, South Georgia Island.

After Shackleton's death, Quest served in various capacities, including as a minesweeper during World War II.

The search involved months of investigation and high-resolution sonar analysis.

The discovery highlights the combined efforts of teams from Canada, the U.S., the U.K., and Norway.
