World’s 1st ‘Green Steel’ Multi-Purpose Vessel Unveiled

The world’s first multi-purpose vessel made from green steel has just been delivered. Prima Verde is a major step toward sustainable shipping!

Built by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), this 130m-long vessel is designed to transport steel, heavy machinery, and bulk cargo.

Its hull is made from JGreeX green steel, reducing CO₂ emissions through carbon credit allocation during production.

The ship is powered by a high-efficiency marine gas oil (MGO) engine, cutting carbon emissions compared to conventional fuels.

Equipped with two VentoFoil wind propulsion devices, it harnesses wind energy to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Delivered in January 2025, Prima Verde is part of MOL’s mission to achieve net-zero GHG emissions by 2050.

Green steel, wind power, and cleaner engines—Prima Verde signals a new era in sustainable shipping. Is this the future of cargo transport?
