Aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN-68) returned to Naval Air Station North Island after a seven-month deployment to the Indo-Pacific.
Nimitz is offloading elements of Carrier Air Wing 17 before heading to its homeport at Naval Base Kitsap.
Destroyer USS Decatur (DDG-73) and cruiser USS Bunker Hill (CG-52) also returned home as part of the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group.
The Nimitz Carrier Strike Group conducted various operations, exercises, and training in the Indo-Pacific region.
They participated in exercises with partners like Japan and India, operated in the South China Sea, and provided support in Guam after Typhoon Mawar.
Chung-Hoon, a destroyer in the group, had an unsafe encounter with a Chinese Navy destroyer in the Taiwan Strait.
The Nimitz Carrier Strike Group also conducted joint drills with the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group.
