USS Milius (DDG 69), a guided-missile destroyer, departed Shimoda, Japan, on May 22 after a scheduled port visit.
The port visit was in celebration of the 84th Black Ship Festival.
The festival symbolizes the beginning of diplomatic and trade relations between the U.S. and Japan.
Milius' commanding officer emphasized the importance of the U.S. Navy-Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force relationship.
During the port visit, Milius Sailors engaged in community projects, ceremonies, and festivities.
The festival included a memorial service, an official parade, and various festivities.
The Sailors expressed gratitude for the warm reception and friendly nature of the people of Shimoda.
USS Milius is part of Task Force 71/Destroyer Squadron 15, the principal surface force of the U.S. 7th Fleet.
