USS Jack H. Lucas (DDG 125) to commission in Tampa, Florida on October 7.

DDG 125 is the Navy's first Flight III destroyer with advanced upgrades.

Key upgrades include the AN/SPY-6(V)1 Air and Missile Defense Radar and electrical power enhancements.

Destroyers offer versatile offensive and defensive capabilities, operating independently or in groups.

Capable of anti-air warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and anti-surface warfare.

Named after Pfc. Jack Lucas, a World War II hero and Medal of Honor recipient.

The ship's sponsors are Ruby Lucas and philanthropist Cathy Reynolds.

USS Jack H. Lucas will move to its homeport in San Diego after commissioning.
