USS Cooperstown, a Freedom-variant littoral combat ship, was commissioned on May 8, 2023 in New York City.

She is the first naval ship named after Cooperstown, New York. 

The ceremony's principal speaker was Major League Baseball Hall of Fame player and manager, Joe Torre.

Cooperstown was built by Lockheed Martin and Fincantieri Marinette Marine in Marinette, Wisconsin.

The ship was launched on Jan. 19, 2019, christened on Feb. 29, 2020, and delivered to the U.S. Navy on Sep. 20, 2022.

Cooperstown is designed to operate in near-shore environments, winning against 21st-century coastal threats.

Commanding Officer, Cmdr. Daxton Moore, expressed pride in the crew's hard work and dedication to excellence.

The ship will sail to its homeport of Mayport, Fla.
