Lenah Sutcliffe Higbee, the ship's namesake, was the second Superintendent of the Navy Nurse Corps and the first woman to receive the Navy Cross.
The USS Lenah Sutcliffe Higbee is the second ship named after Higbee, following the USS Higbee (DD 806).
The ship is part of the 72nd Arleigh Burke-class destroyer to be commissioned and is configured as a Flight IIA destroyer.
It offers power projection, quick reaction time, high firepower, and increased electronic countermeasures capability.
The USS Lenah Sutcliffe Higbee is 509.5 feet long, 59 feet wide, and has a displacement of 9,496 tons.
The ship will be homeported in San Diego.
