US Navy Awards $87 Million Contract to BAE Systems for Upgrading USS Carter Hall
The US Navy awarded BAE Systems an $87 million contract for repair work aboard the dock landing ship USS Carter Hall.
The nearly 30-year-old vessel will undergo a year of restorative work at BAE Systems’ shipyard in Norfolk, Va., also the ship’s homeport.
BAE Systems will begin working aboard the 610-foot-long ship in July 2024 and will complete it by May 2025.
Work will focus on maintenance & preservation work on its hull, ballast tanks and engineering plant.

USS Carter Hall recently returned to its homeport following an eight-month overseas deployment.
It was patrolling the Red Sea as part of the US response to the tensions in the Middle East, including the Houthi attack on ships.
The dock landing ship was built by Avondale Shipyards in New Orleans and commissioned in 1995.
USS Carter Hall can carry 420 sailors and up to 500 Marines.
