U.S Navy Uses Party Glow Sticks To Detect Viruses Like COVID-19
The popular glow sticks used for fun at parties can be used to detect viruses like COVID-19.
US Navy is collaborating with University of Houston researchers to investigate the potential of glow sticks in biothreat detection
The initiative can transform biothreat detection & is supported by a $1.3 million task order from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency.
Glow sticks glow brightly when disturbed by a chemical reaction, and Bio-targets can be illuminated by this similar reaction, making them easy to identify.
This technique gives results in 15 minutes and is a quick and affordable way to detect biothreats.
The solution is adaptable and can be used in various situations, from public health catastrophes to military operations.
It might be applied to medical tests and HIV detection and expanded to include additional viruses and environmental pollutants.
