U.S. Navy fired Cmdr. Cameron Dennis, commanding officer of the Japan-based destroyer USS Howard, over the loss of confidence.
Capt. Dave Huljack will be assigned as the commanding officer of the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer for the time being.
Cameron Dennis will be reassigned to the U.S. 7th Fleet staff, the Navy statement read.
Dennis is the 2nd Navy commander relieved this year, and in 2023, the service relieved 15 commanding officers.
Dennis took command of USS Howard in September after the Navy relieved his predecessor, Cmdr. Kenji Igawa in August.
Igawa had been at the post only about eight months before he was abruptly relieved.
Igawa was relieved over a "soft grounding" incident that the USS Howard experienced on Aug. 10 while pulling into Bali, Indonesia.
