A U.S. Coast Guard vessel intercepted a fishing boat transiting international waters in the Gulf of Oman, Jan. 30, and seized drugs worth an estimated $33 million.

As the USCGC Emlen Tunnel (WPC 1145) patrolled regional waters in support of Combined Task Force (CTF) 150, it seized 4,000 kilograms of hashish and 512 kilograms of methamphetamine.

As part of the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), CTF 150 is currently led by the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom.

This was the first drug seizure in 2023 for CMF. They are just beginning their work to ensure maritime security in this region to stop illicit activities and drug smuggling.

More than 10,000 hours of patrol time were logged by CTF 150 ships under Al-Mutairi and six shipments of illegal drugs were intercepted, including opium, heroin, hashish and amphetamines.

Over $250 million was estimated to be the combined value of the seized drugs.

Since 2021, CMF has intercepted $1 billion in illicit narcotics during maritime patrols.
