A-P Maersk unveiled the Ane Maersk, a container ship powered by green methanol derived from green hydrogen.

Ane Maersk is the first of Maersk’s 18 large methanol-enabled vessels that will be delivered between 2024 and 2025.

It can carry 16,000 20ft shipping containers and is the world’s second methanol-enabled container vessel.

It is named after Ane Maersk Mc-Kinney Uggla, the Chair of the A.P. Moller Foundation and A.P. Moller Holding.

At the beginning of February, the vessel will enter service on the AE7 string connecting Asia and Europe.

Anne Maersk boasts an industry-first design with a bridge and accommodation at the front of the vessel, ensuring fuel-efficient operations.

Maersk said it had secured enough green methanol for the vessel’s maiden voyage and is working on 2024-25 sourcing solutions for its methanol-enabled vessel fleet.
