The guided-missile destroyer USS Carney's crew was welcomed to the US on May 10 after a historic mission in the Middle East.

Adm. Lisa Franchetti, Chief of Naval Operations, expressed her pride and gratitude to the crew for their work since September.

She talked about the lives they saved and upheld the free flow of commerce and rules-based international order.

They were called to action on the first day they entered the US 5th Fleet and conducted 51 engagements in 6 months.

Carney was performing routine operations in the US 6th Fleet when Hamas targeted Israel on 7 October.

On 18 October, Carney entered the US 5th Fleet area of operations to support maritime security in defence of the US and its allies.

Carney destroyed Houthi land attack cruise, anti-ship ballistic missiles and drones.

During her visit to the vessel, the CNO recognised 14 Sailors for their extraordinary achievements during the deployment.
