Tahiti’s Cruise Ship Becomes First-ever Floating Athlete Village For Olympics
Surfers in Tahiti are staying on the Aranui 5 cruise ship, marking the first-ever floating athlete village in Olympic history.
Anchored 45 minutes from the surfing venue, the Aranui 5 can accommodate up to 230 passengers in over 100 cabins.
The ship boasts eight guest decks, a spa, and a gym. This floating village is more than just a place to sleep—it's a luxury experience for athletes.
The decision to use a cruise ship was driven by the need to manage the large influx of people and minimize the impact on the small town's local environment.
Surfer Kanoa Igarashi praised the ship’s amenities, including a 24-hour dining hall and an activity center. He even claimed it was better than the accommodations in Paris.
The creative idea of a floating village highlights the Olympic spirit’s versatility and the unique appeal of the Tahitian surfing venue.
The Aranui 5’s role as a floating athlete village adds a unique chapter to Olympic history, showcasing creativity and adaptability.
