Port Of Seattle Becomes First In U.S. To Mandate Shore Power For All Homeported Cruise Ships

The Port of Seattle is the first in the nation to mandate 100% shore power for all homeported cruise vessels by 2027.

Originally aiming for 2030, the Port of Seattle now requires shore power by 2027, thanks to major investments in vessels and shoreside facilities.

Plugging into shore power reduces diesel emissions by 80% at berth. Last year, this prevented 2,700 metric tons of greenhouse gases and 0.75 metric tons of diesel particulate matter from entering the atmosphere.

The Port of Seattle is finalizing the electrification of Pier 66, making shore power available at all three cruise berths.

The port collaborates with cruise ports in Alaska and British Columbia to explore the world's first cruise-specific Green Corridor from Seattle to Alaska.
