PM commissions the first indigenous aircraft carrier as INS Vikrant on Sept 2, 2022.
INS Vikrant is the first indigenously designed and largest ship made by India.
The length and breadth of the ship is 262 metres and 62 metres respectively.
It is the largest ship ever built in maritime history of India and houses state of the art automation features.
It can carry 30 aircrafts: MIG-29K fighter jets, MH-60R multirole helicopters, and combat aircraft.
The ship is a 45,000-tonne warship built with an investment made up of
2.5 billion USD.
Many women soldiers of the Navy will be stationed on Vikrant, with the immense power of the ocean.
It is also known as a floating city because it has 18 floors, 14 decks and 2,300 compartments.
It is designed by the Indian Navy’s in-house Warship Design Bureau (WDB), under the Cochin Shipyard Limited.
It has a novel aircraft operation mode called Short Take-Off But Arrested Recovery (STOBAR).
