France’s Naval Group to launch next-gen aircraft carrier aiming to replace Charles de Gaulle in 2038.
The carrier would be known as PANG, which stands for Porte Avion Nouvelle Génération.
The 75,000-tonne vessel will measure about 310m in length and 85m at the deck’s widest part.
The two nuclear reactors offered by TechnicAtome will provide electricity to run three shaft drives.
PANG is expected to carry 32 next-gen fighters, 3 Advanced Hawkeyes, and multiple aircraft.
PANG will boast a crew of 2,000 individuals and will outclass the older carrier by 159 feet in length.
It is being constructed as a joint venture of Naval Group and the Chantiers de l’Atlantique.
The initial sea trials are expected to begin in 2036, and shall be delivered to the Navy in 2037.
