North Korea Builds Most Advanced Warship with Vertical Launch Systems

North Korea is building its largest warship ever, set to revolutionize its naval capabilities with advanced features never seen before.

Currently under construction at Nampo Shipyard, this unnamed warship is poised to become the most sophisticated vessel in North Korea’s fleet.

Resembling the size of a modern frigate, it will be equipped with vertical launch systems (VLS) for launching missiles—an unprecedented feature for the country.

Recently inspected by Kim Jong Un, the ship’s construction has made significant progress, with the facility now covered by a permanent roof.

Experts believe the ship’s large size—over 100 meters long and 15 meters wide—indicates it will likely be a destroyer, surpassing older North Korean corvettes.

The forward section of the ship is designed to accommodate a VLS, enabling it to launch multiple missile types, including surface-to-air and anti-ship missiles.

Enhanced by phased-array radar, the ship will be better equipped for surveillance and missile guidance, greatly boosting its air defense capabilities.

With stealth features to reduce radar detection, North Korea’s new warship represents a significant leap in naval technology as part of their Five-Year Plan to strengthen military power.
