Maersk & Nike To Unveil World’s 1st Methanol-Powered Container Ship At Port Of Los Angeles

Maersk, in partnership with Nike, is set to unveil the world’s first methanol-powered container ship at the Port of Los Angeles this August.

CEO of Maersk, alongside Nike executives and state officials, will lead the christening ceremony, emphasizing their commitment to decarbonizing global supply chains.

Nike’s Chief Supply Chain Officer highlights the importance of biofuels in their “Move to Zero” mission, made possible through partnerships like this with Maersk.

The vessel will open for public excursions, offering a rare opportunity to explore its 350-meter length, including the crew’s living quarters and the high-tech bridge.

This ship marks a significant step in Maersk’s goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve net-zero emissions by 2040, with 20 more methanol-enabled vessels on order.
