Maersk & Hapag-Lloyd’s New Ocean Network ‘Gemini Cooperation’

Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd have launched Gemini Cooperation, a long-term alliance to create a more reliable and efficient global shipping network.

The first sailings began on February 1, 2025, with a full transition by May. The network will eventually operate 340 vessels worldwide.

Once fully implemented, Gemini Cooperation aims to achieve over 90% schedule reliability, setting a new industry benchmark.

Covering major East/West trade routes, the network will offer 29 mainline services and 28 intraregional shuttle services.

Together, Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd will deploy 290 vessels with a total capacity of 3.4 million TEU, ensuring greater flexibility and efficiency.

Both companies are committed to decarbonization, with Maersk targeting net-zero emissions by 2040 and Hapag-Lloyd by 2045.

With THE Alliance and 2M Alliance dissolved, Gemini Cooperation marks a new era in global shipping. Will this reshape the future of ocean freight?
