Legendary U.S. Navy Ship to Become Stockton’s New Maritime Museum

A legendary U.S. Navy ship, the former minesweeper USS Lucid, is set to become a new maritime museum at the Port of Stockton.

The USS Lucid, which served in the Vietnam War, is the last of its kind left in the U.S., with all others scrapped.

Of the 66 minesweepers built for the U.S. Navy, the Lucid is the only surviving ship. Three were originally constructed in Stockton.

Once restored, the USS Lucid will become a tourist attraction, expected to draw visitors from across the country, including former sailors.

There are plans to construct a replica of the original shipyard where the Lucid was built, serving as the entrance to the maritime museum.

The museum is expected to boost tourism in Stockton, preserving the city’s rich maritime history and honoring those who served.

The USS Lucid’s transformation into a maritime museum marks a new chapter for Stockton, celebrating the past while educating future generations.
