A major milestone in maritime sustainability! The Japanese bulk carrier Yodohime is the first coal carrier to be equipped with a Norsepower Rotor Sail.

This high-tech sail, installed in December 2024, uses wind power to reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by up to 10%.

The Rotor Sail operates using the Magnus effect, where wind meets a spinning cylinder, generating thrust to assist the ship’s propulsion.

This is the second IINO Lines vessel to adopt Norsepower’s technology, following the Oceanus Aurora, a very large gas carrier.

With over 30 installations completed and 42 more planned, wind-assisted propulsion is rapidly gaining traction in the shipping industry.

Could Rotor Sails be the future of sustainable shipping? The Yodohime is leading the way, proving that innovation and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.
