MT Heroic Idun, an oil tanker ship was headed to load crude oil cargo in Nigeria on 8 August.
26 Crew members were detained by Equitorial Guinea on the charges of an alleged attempt to steal crude oil.
Equatorial Guinea imposed a fine for sailing, without hoisting the Equatorial Guinean flag. The fine was paid.
The vessel has now been handed over to Nigerian Navy for investigating its involvement in the theft.
The crew has now been illegally stuck in West Africa for over 80 days without any sign of hope.
The families are in a state of despair. The seafarers are under severe stress without much food.
The fear among the sailors is that they will be cut off from the world and don't know when they would be freed.
The 26 crew have been requesting the Indian Government to intervene and help them return home.
