The U.S. Navy and Royal Navy are both pursuing extra-large uncrewed underwater vehicles (XLUUVs).

China has unveiled its heavily armed, extra large, underwater drone submarine (XLUUV) at NAVDEX 2023 defence exposition in UAE.

China’s XLUUV, which was displayed in Abu Dhabi, is armed with torpedoes.

These drone submarines are widely seen as a key part of tomorrow’s fleet.

Design-wise, the Chinese XLUUV is identical to the Boeing Orca used by the US Navy.

However, it has four torpedo tubes, indicating a load of offensive armaments.

China has been aggressively working to develop uncrewed underwater vehicles.

The presence of drone submarines would significantly increase the PLAN’s ability to conduct several missions.
