USS Nimitz (CVN-68) is a supercarrier of the United States Navy, named after Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz.
The ship was commissioned on May 3, 1975, and is currently in active service.
Nimitz is the lead ship of its class, which includes ten other aircraft carriers.
The ship has a displacement of 100,020 long tons (approx.) and is 1,092 feet (332.8m) long approximately.
Nimitz is powered by two nuclear reactors, which provide the ship with a top speed of more than 31.5 knots (approx).
Nimitz is equipped with a wide variety of aircraft, including F/A-18 Hornet.
The ship has been deployed numerous times, including to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Nimitz has also been used in a variety of training exercises, including RIMPAC, the world's largest international maritime exercise.
The ship is homeported in Naval Base Kitsap-Bremerton, Washington, and is part of Carrier Strike Group 11.
