Seven people were saved and 21 have gone missing after a migrant shipwreck off the shores of the Italian Island of Lampedusa, per media reports and U.N Officials.
Those who survived are Syrian Nationals who said that 3 children are among those missing.
The 7 people were saved by the Coast Guard and they informed that they were sailing on a boat which began its journey from Libya a few days ago with 28 people.
The Central Mediterranean region is one of the deadliest migration routes in the world.
Per the U.N Migration Agency, over 2500 migrants died or went missing while trying to cross it in 2023 and the number stands at 1047 for 2024.
The recent figures from the Italian Interior Ministry recorded that over 43,000 migrants reached Italy in 2024.
