This happened on Saturday, and the video of the accident shows a huge cargo vessel sailing directly through the swimmers’ path.
Luckily, nobody was injured, and no Coast Guard Ships were sent to the site when this happened.
The swim was organised by Odyssey Open Water Swimming, which said that they were given a permit for the same a year before.
Warran Wallace of the Odyssey Open Water Swimming expressed his gratitude to the United States Coast Guard.
He added that they were looking forward to the investigation findings since massive ships merging into their path is unusual and has not happened before.
Fortunately, all swimmers at the time of the incident had completed their swim and came to the shore.
