Video: World’s Largest LNG Bunker Vessel From China Is Here
Hai Yang Shi You 301, until now the world’s biggest LNG bunker vessel, has officially started its operation through the subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation named Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI) after a much-awaited conversion project.
Its delivery ceremony was conducted earlier on 15 November, per China Central Television. The country’s first LNG bunkering vessel was converted from an LNG carrier to China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC). Jiangnan Shipbuilding constructed the bunkering vessel. It was successfully delivered back in 2015 (May). The conversion assignment began in 2022 (August) at GSI’s Wenchong yard.

The bunker vessel measures 184.7 meters in length with a width of 28.1 meters. It can be loaded with about 30,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
During the conversion, the vessel was reportedly fitted with equipment like cryogenic units, ship-to-ship refuelling systems, gas combustion devices, and reliquefaction systems for enabling refuelling functions.
The vessel is known to have a fueling capacity of 1,650 cbm of LNG/hour, enough to fuel substantial container vessels, crude tankers, RORO vessels, and duel fuel ore carriers. Following the vessel’s delivery, the latter is expected to carry out the first bunkering operation shortly.
The conversion is a one-of-its-kind project in China and also forms part of the nation’s official carbon peaking strategy and achieving carbon neutrality by transitioning to greener fuels.
