The PCG was notified soon about the incident on board MV Ken, anchored near Barangay Poblacion, Castilla, a short distance from the port in Sorgoson Bay.
The PCG moved quickly to address the situation, working closely with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Philippine Navy (PN).
The crews of the nearby vessel MV Annabelle and the MV Ken joined them.
The PCG quickly collaborated with the local firefighters to respond to the emergency and sent a patrol boat to the area.
The crew of the BRP Federico Martir (PC-385), a Philippine Navy ship, arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire in the ship’s deckhouse.
The video footage from the incident shows the fire quickly spread through the accommodations block and up to the wheelhouse, as reported by the crew on board.
The fire was declared extinguished at 1500 hours owing to the tireless efforts of the local firefighters.
Luckily, no pollution incidents or injuries were reported, and the ship’s eight crew members made it out of this difficult situation without any damage.
