AIS Animation: Maersk Genoa Collides With Small Cargo Ship Off Port of Antwerp

Collision between Maersk-owned container ship Maersk Genoa and Danish-flagged general cargo ship Dan Frighter occurred at the estuary of Antwerp port early in the morning at around 9.20 UTC on April 4, 2017.

The 10,000 TEU Maersk Genoa was outbound en route to Bremerhaven while 852 gross tonnes Dan Frighter was inbound coming from Bilbao.

Reports say both vessels were damaged in the incident.

No injured or water pollution were report but damages in the hull of both ships, along with a crack above the waterline of the stern of Maersk Genoa.

The cause of the incident is under investigation by local maritime authorities.

Both vessels have since been allowed to return to service.
