An online monitoring site states that the ship departed from Port Louis, Mauritius, seven days earlier and was scheduled to arrive on Monday at Mombasa port.
Mr. Andrew Mwangura, a marine specialist, speculated that since the engine was not operating, the ship may have encountered mechanical issues.
A number of tugboats are already at the scene after information about the vessel running aground was received on Tuesday evening, Mwangura informed.
Following an investigation, they are awaiting the official reason for drifting, he added.
Yesterday, there were about four boats towing the ship.
